Hi, I’m Amy - Your friendly, neighborhood trauma therapist

If you’ve spent a long time carrying things that feel "unthinkable," I want you to take a deep breath and know right now: You aren't a burden, and you don't have to have the perfect words to be here.

Often, after we go through trauma—especially the deep-rooted kind that stems from childhood or complex, long-term experiences—we get really good at hiding. We internalize shame, we worry that our story is "too much," and we stop reaching out because we don’t want to "heavy-up" someone else’s life. If that sounds familiar, I want to offer you a different kind of space. My "why" is to hold space for folx who are navigating these experiences but aren't sure how to talk about them yet. I’m here to serve as a touchpoint of safety and calm for your nervous system, providing a soft place to land when the world feels overwhelming.

The Science of Our Space

I approach every client through a trauma-informed lens, and our work together is rooted in Polyvagal Theory and attachment-based interventions. What that means in our sessions is that I prioritize your felt sense of safety—what we call neuroception—above all else.

The foundation of our therapeutic alliance is built on trust and
co-regulation. Before we dive into the deep work of addressing complex or childhood trauma, we work together to help your nervous system shift out of "survival mode" and into a state of safety, or the ventral vagal state.

I also work extensively with co-occurring disorders. I understand that where there is trauma, there is often substance misuse. When we are trapped in "big" feelings and overwhelming physical sensations, it is a natural human response to try and self-medicate in an attempt to regulate a system that feels out of control. In this space, we look at those behaviors with curiosity and compassion rather than judgment.

Proven Pathways to Healing

The bulk of my caseload utilizes EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which is a proven, first-line treatment for trauma. I often describe EMDR as a way to help your brain "digest" memories that have been stuck. When we experience something unthinkable, the memory can get locked in the nervous system in its raw, overwhelming form. EMDR helps unlock those files and process them so that while the event still happened, it no longer carries the same emotional "charge" or physical sting in the present.

While EMDR is highly effective for PTSD, it is also a powerful tool for navigating the loops of depression, anxiety, and substance use. Because I believe in embracing all pathways to recovery, I also offer alternative therapies, including Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy. Sometimes, the traditional path needs a different kind of support to help unlock the places where we feel most stuck. Whether we are using EMDR, PAT, or nervous-system-focused talk therapy, we go at your pace.

A Fellow Traveler

I’ve always believed that I shouldn’t ask you to lean into practices that I’m not willing to lean into myself. I see myself as a fellow traveler on this path of healing; I know how much courage it takes to show up for this work, so I make it a point to live the same principles of regulation and presence that we talk about in session.

When I’m "in the wild," I stay grounded through the things that keep my own nervous system nourished. You can usually find me getting my hands dirty in the garden, finding a fresh perspective through my camera lens, or staying active at the gym and on my yoga mat. I also make time for regular meditation to stay connected to my own sense of peace. I’m also a live music junkie and fully believe in the healing power of the Arts, especially music. I’m  a musical explorer and a proud member of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. And, of course, no day is complete without some quality downtime and cuddles with my dog, Ringo.

Taking the Next Step

Reaching out is often the hardest part of the process, but I want to encourage you to trust yourself on this journey. That small voice telling you that you deserve to feel safe and supported is worth listening to. You don’t have to have everything figured out or have a perfect script ready to go. Sometimes the most important work we do is simply creating a space where you feel safe enough to exist without your armor. Whether you're ready to share your story or just need a quiet, secure place to land until the words find their way, I am here for you.
